London's Hyde Park
marked the final time
the band’s classic lineup
of
David Gilmour,
Roger Waters,
Richard Wright,
and
Nick Mason
performed together on stage.
Organized by
musician and activist
Bob Geldof,
the Live 8 concert series
was designed to
pressure world leaders
ahead of the
G8 summit by
raising global awareness
about poverty,
third-world debt,
and the AIDS crisis
in developing nations.
The performance bridged a
24-year chasm
of bitter estrangement
between
Roger Waters
and his
former bandmates,
who had not shared
a stage since 1981.
