Tom Fogerty & Randy Oda : Sidekicks

Thomas Richard Fogerty

(November 9, 1941 – September 6, 1990) 

was an American musician, 

best known as

 the rhythm guitarist for

Creedence Clearwater Revival. 

He was posthumously inducted

 into the

Rock and Roll

 Hall of Fame

in 1993.

Although Tom's

 Golliwogs-era collaboration with John,

 "Walk on the Water",

 appeared on CCR's 

debut album,

 the subsequent lack of 

vocal and songwriting opportunities, 

compounded by 

longstanding animosity

 toward his brother, 

led Tom to leave the band 

in early 1971

 after the completion of

Pendulum.

 Though the band's press release 

characterized the split as amicable, 

Tom was frustrated by

 his brother's monopolization 

of the group's 

creativity and decision-making,

 lamenting that he simply became

 "just the guy who stood there

 and played rhythm guitar.

 So after we were into our

 sixth platinum album, 

I thought maybe I could do

 a little singing. 

But John was not going to

 change things, so I split.

Solo career

After leaving CCR, 

Fogerty 

began a solo career. 

His debut release,

 the April 1971 single 

"Goodbye Media Man"

 did not chart on the 

Billboard Hot 100, 

though it reached No. 3 

on the Bubbling 

Under chart 

and No. 93

 on the

Cash Box 

singles chart

Throughout the rest of the 

1970's and 1980's, 

Fogerty continued to record

 as both a solo artist 

and as a member of 

Ruby. 

At his October 1980 

wedding reception, 

all four members of CCR

 reunited and performed

 for the first time

 in a decade. 

They took the stage

 for the final time 

at a school reunion 

three years later.

Fogerty's final project 

was the album 

Sidekicks,

 recorded in 1988 

with 

Ruby bandmate

Randy Oda,

 though not released 

until 1992

DEATH

From Tom's departure

 from the band in 1971 

until his death, 

his relationship with 

his brother John 

was strained,

 woven into the complex

 legal and personal battles

 that John had with 

Fantasy Records 

owner 

Saul Zaentz.

 Tom's continued association 

with Zaentz,

 led to an irreconcilable impasse

 in their relationship. 

According to John's 

autobiography, 

Fortunate Son, 

he visited Tom 

several times shortly

 before his death,

 though they only

 barely reconciled during

 John's final visit. 

John later eulogized him

 at his funeral,

 saying, 

"We didn't want to

 conquer Wall Street 

or take over nations. 

We wanted to grow up

 and be musicians. 

I guess we achieved

 half of that, 

becoming rock and roll stars. 

We didn't necessarily grow up

 Sidekicks 

(also known as Rainbow Carousel)

 is an album by

Tom Fogerty 

and

Randy Oda

who previously worked together

 in the rock band Ruby

 The album was recorded in 1988 

and released in 1992 

on Fantasy Records,

 two years after

 Fogerty's death

 in 1990.

 Due to its

 posthumous release,

Sidekicks 

stands as Fogerty's

 final studio work.

Background

During spring 1988, 

Fogerty and Oda 

reunited to work on

 new material 

for the album

 that would become

Sidekicks. 

Recorded at Studio D

 at Fantasy Studios

 in Berkeley, 

additional overdubs were 

recorded at 

Chaton Recording in Scottsdale. 

The project saw 

Fogerty's son Jeff 

and

 Oda's brother

 Kevin 

on bass and drums

 respectively. 

After completing half of the album,

 Fogerty and Oda 

agreed to return to the studio

 at a later date

 so that Fogerty 

could spend more time

 with his

 newly-born daughter.

 However, soon after, 

Fogerty fell ill 

with pneumonia 

and was diagnosed with AIDS;

 believed to have been

 from an unscreened

 blood transfusion

 during Fogerty's 

back surgery 

earlier in the decade. 

After recovering from

 the pneumonia,

 Fogerty was able

 to continue working on

Sidekicks.

After its completion, 

Fantasy Records decided 

not to release the album.

 Fogerty died of

 AIDS-related tuberculosis

 in September 1990, 

and Sidekicks

would be posthumously released

 by Fantasy in 1992.

 In Germany,

 the album was released by

 Line Records. 

For this version,

 the artist name was changed to

 "Sidekicks"

 and the title 

Rainbow Carousel.

 In preparation

 for its release, 

the album was

 digitally remastered 

by George Horn

 at Fantasy Studios

 during the same year.

 George Roger Waters

(born September 6th, 1943)

 is an English 

singer-songwriter, 

musician and political activist.

 In 1965, 

he co-founded the

rock band

Pink Floyd 

as the bassist. 

Following the departure

 of the band's

 main songwriter

Syd Barrett

in 1968, 

Waters became 

Pink Floyd's principal lyricist, 

co-lead vocalist 

and conceptual leader 

until his departure in 1985.

Pink Floyd 

achieved international success 

with the concept albums 

The Dark Side of the Moon

(1973), 

Wish You Were Here

(1975),

Animals 

(1977), 

The Wall

(1979),

 and 

The Final Cut

(1983). 

By the early 1980s,

 they had become 

one of the most acclaimed 

and commercially successful

 groups in popular music.

 Amid creative differences, 

Waters left in 1985 

and began a legal dispute 

over the use of the band's 

name and material. 

They settled out of court

 in 1987.

 Richard Davies

  (July 22nd, 1944 – September 6th, 2025)

Was An English musician, 

singer and songwriter

 best known

 as founder, 

vocalist 

and keyboardist 

of the rock band 

Supertramp

Davies was its only 

constant member,

 and composed some

 of the band's 

best-known songs,

 including

 "Rudy",

 "Bloody Well Right", 

"Crime of the Century",

 "Ain't Nobody But Me",

 "From Now On", 

"Gone Hollywood",

Starting with

 the self-titled

 Supertramp

 in 1970, 

Davies shared

 lead vocals 

with

 Supertramp

 songwriting partner

 Roger Hodgson 

until the latter's

 departure in 1983,

 at which point 

he became the

 sole

 lead vocalist 

of the group. 

Davies's voice

 is deeper

 than Hodgson's, 

and he

 usually employs

 a raspy baritone 

which stands in 

stark contrast to 

his bandmate's tenor. 

However, 

he occasionally sings

 in a falsetto which 

superficially resembles 

Hodgson's vocals, 

such as on

 "Goodbye Stranger" 

and

 "My Kind of Lady".
