Six of the Best Reunion,

National Bowl, Milton Keynes,

 Britain, 10/2/82

"Six of the Best"

was a legendary,

 one-off

Genesis

reunion concert

 featuring original

 front man

Peter Gabriel.

The event took place on a

notoriously torrential

and muddy Saturday,

October 2, 1982,

 at the

National Bowl

 in Milton Keynes, England.

The Core Details

• The Purpose: The concert was organized as a benefit to rescue Peter Gabriel from a crushing £200,000 debt. The debt was incurred from organizing the inaugural WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) festival earlier that summer, which had been a financial disaster.
• The Lineup: The core performance featured Peter Gabriel reunited with his former bandmates Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford, alongside touring musicians Chester Thompson and Daryl Stuermer.
• The Surprise Guest:
Guitarist Steve Hackett flew in directly from abroad, arriving just in time to join the band on stage for the final two encores. This made the event the only time the classic 1970s five-piece lineup ever shared a stage after Gabriel's 1975 departure.
