Pink Floyd : Radio City Music Hall 1973

US AND THEM

AND AFTER ALL

WE'RE ONLY

ORDINARY MEN

"Obscured by Father Time"

NOTES :

Much confusion has surrounded these recordings from March 18th, 1973 in recent years; Pink Floyd were scheduled to perform in Waterbury, Connecticut on the date in question, and thus, many of the tapes from this date were attributed to the Palace Theatre in Waterbury for that reason.

However, the band actually performed twice on the 18th; although the tickets for Pink Floyd's March 17th 1973 concert at New York's Radio City Music Hall had been printed with the March 17th date, the band didn't actually take to the stage until 1 A.M. the following morning, hence he difficulty in accurately identifying this show.

Early tape traders originally determined that the origin of these recordings was the Radio City Music Hall, but as new sources emerged with the March 18th date, and subsequently compared to the older Radio City sources, determined to all be of the same show, based upon the bands tour schedule, they were then attributed to Waterbury!

Ultimately, it is unlikely that 5+ sources could originate from one show in a small Connecticut city in 1973, yet none from the famous Radio City Music Hall in New York, and given this fact, along with other details found within the recordings themselves, we can finally clear up this confusion once and for all! We proudly present to you the silver debut of Pink Floyd's excellent 1973 performance at New York's Radio City Music Hall, in support of the "Dark Side Of The Moon" album!

The eleventh concert of the bands first North American tour for 1973 includes "When You're In" and "Obscured By Clouds" from the soundtrack of the same name. - these songs would only be performed live in 1973, and make documents such as this even more valuable. Additionally, this would be the last year "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" would be performed on a Pink Floyd tour, and the other long time future "Careful With That Axe, Eugene" would soon be retired the following year to make way for newer material. Of course, the centrepiece of this collection is the complete "Dark Side of the Moon" suite, marking the first time the New York audience would experience the final, post-LP release version of the epic, which had transformed significantly since the bands last visit in May of 1972.

Without question, this is one of the most important concerts the band performed in 1973 that directly contributed to the changing fortunes of the band!

This can be viewed as a marked improvement over many previous releases, due to the multiple source tapes used. The rare inclusions of "Obscured By Clouds" and "When You're In" are in possibly the best sound quality I've heard for the live renditions of these songs. Just as a side-note, it is a well known fact the The Grateful Dead were in attendance at this concert; you can hear someone near the one of the tapers saying "The Dead just left".
