David Bryon : Man Of Yesterdays -the Anthology) (Box Set) (3 CDs)

 Best known as

the frontman of the

'70s arena rock outfit

Uriah Heep,

singer

David Byron

also performed as

a solo artist.

Born David Garrick

in Essex, England,

on

January 29, 1947,

he first emerged

as a member of

the short-lived Stalkers.

With the group's

guitarist

Mick Box,

he later formed

Spice,

which also featured

bassist

Paul Newton

and drummer

Alex Napier.

Renamed

Uriah Heep

in 1970

after a character

in the

Charles Dickens novel

David Copperfield,

they debuted with

the LP

Very 'eavy, Very 'umble;

while the group's

fusion of

art-rock

and

heavy metal

was widely scorned

by critics,

they soon rose to

stardom on both sides

of the Atlantic,

with much of the

attention focused on

Byron's operatic vocals.

In 1975,

he issued his

his first solo effort,

Take No Prisoners;

a year later,

after ten albums with

Uriah Heep,

Byron's longtime

drinking problem

led to his dismissal

from the band,

and he formed

Rough Diamond

with former

Humble Pie

guitarist

Clem Clempson

and

ex-Wings drummer

Geoff Britton.

The group issued only

a self-titled 1977 LP

before disbanding,

leaving Byron to

again pursue

a solo career.

His second effort,

Baby Faced Killer,

was not successful,

and he next formed

the Byron Band

with guitarist

Robin George.

1981's

On the Rocks

was their

sole album,

and as Byron's

alcoholism worsened,

his career dried up;

he was found dead

was an American

musician who was

 the bassist of

 the rock band

 ZZ Top

for more than

50 years.

He also sang backing

and lead vocals

and played keyboards.

Hill was born in Dallas, Texas.

As a child,

he began performing music

with his brother,

Rocky Hill.

he and the drummer

Frank Beard

 joined the guitarist

Billy Gibbons

 in ZZ Top;

they went on to release albums

Eliminator

(1983).

Hill favored

simple compositions and a

"big",

Critics described

 his basslines

 as a critical part of

ZZ Top's sound,

complementing Gibbons'

guitar showmanship.

Hill was inducted into

 the Rock and Roll

Hall of Fame

 as a member of

ZZ Top

 in 2004.

Hill died in 2021

 after a period of

declining health.

In line with his wishes,

he was succeeded by

Attila (Billy Joel) : Attila

 Attila

was an American

 rock duo

 from New York City,

most notable for

having featured

a young

William Joel

(Billy Joel.)

History

Billy Joel

and

 Jon Small

 broke away from

 their band

the Hassles

and formed

 Attila in 1969.

 The instrumentation was

organ and drums,

with Joel

 also handling the

 bass lines

with a keyboard,

similar to

 the Doors'

Ray Manzarek.

Their creative partnership

 ended in 1970

 when Joel

 ran off with

Small's wife,

Elizabeth,

whom he later married,

although this

 did not end

 their collaborations,

as Small produced

Joel's 1987

Концерт video

 and the

2011

Live at Shea Stadium

 performance.

Small became a

music video director

Attila Album

Their only album,

Attila,

was released on

July 27, 1970.

No singles were released

 from the album

and it did not chart.

Joel himself has

described the album as

"psychedelic bullshit".

End of the sixties I was in a two-man group. We were heavy metal, we were going to destroy the world with amplification, we had titles like "Godzilla", "March of the Huns", "Brain Invasion". A lot of people think [I] just came out of the piano bar ... I did a lot of heavy metal for a while. We had about a dozen gigs and nobody could stay in the room when we were playing. It was too loud. We drove people literally out of clubs. "It was great, but we can't stay in the club."

— Billy Joel, Interview in 1985

The track

Amplifier Fire, Part 1 (Godzilla)

would later appear on

Joel's 2005 box set
