 Carole King Klein

 (Born Carol Joan Klein; February 9, 1942)

 is an American 

singer-songwriter

 and musician

 renowned for her

 extensive contributions

 to popular music. 

She wrote or co-wrote 

118 songs that 

charted on the

 Billboard Hot 100

 during the latter half

 of the 

20th century 

and 61 songs

 that reached

 the UK charts, 

establishing her as

 the most successful

 female songwriter 

on the UK 

singles charts

 from 

1962 to 2005.

In the 1960s, 

King and her first husband, 

Gerry Goffin, 

composed over 

two dozen hit songs

 for various artists, 

many of which 

remain standards. 

She transitioned to a 

solo performing career 

in the 1970s,

 following her 

debut album 

Writer 

(1970)

 with the

 critically acclaimed 

Tapestry

 (1971),

 which topped the 

U.S. album chart

 for 15 weeks 

and stayed on

 the charts for 

over six years.

King has released

 25 solo albums,

 with 

Tapestry

 being her most successful,

 and has sold over

 75 million

 records worldwide.

 Her honors include

 four Grammy Awards,

 inductions into

 the Songwriters Hall of Fame

 and twice

 into the 

Rock and Roll

 Hall of Fame

 (as a performer and songwriter), 

the 2013 

Library of Congress 

Gershwin Prize

 for Popular Song

 (as its first female recipient), 

and the

 2015

 Kennedy Center Honors.

was an 

American 

rock band 

formed in

 Los Angeles, California,

 in 1977

 by former

 Doors member 

Ray Manzarek

The band 

consisted of 

lead singer 

Noah James, 

bassist

 Nigel Harrison 

who later achieved

who later achieved

 greater success 

as a member of

 Blondie,

guitarist 

Paul Warren,

 drummer

 Jimmy Hunter 

and keyboardist 

Ray Manzarek

. The group recorded

 and released 

two studio albums 

in 1977 

and 1978 

and one live album

 in 1977 

on the 

20th Century Record label. 

The band's music 

sold poorly 

and the group 

failed to acquire 

any sales 

or following. 

Soon after the release 

of their 

second studio album,

 Golden Days Diamond Nights

which was released 

only in West Germany,

 Nite City

 disbanded.

Karen Anne Carpenter 

(March 2, 1950 – February 4, 1983)

 was an

 American musician

 who was the

 lead vocalist 

and drummer

 of the highly 

successful duo

 The Carpenters

formed with her

 older brother 

Richard. 

With a distinctive

 three-octave 

contralto range,

 she was praised by

 her peers for

 her vocal skills.

Carpenter appeared on

 Rolling Stone'

2010 list 

of the

 100 greatest

 singers of all time.

Carpenter was born in

 New Haven, Connecticut

 and moved to 

Downey, California

 in 1963 

with her family. 

She began to study 

the drums in high school 

and joined the 

Long Beach State

 choir in college. 

After several years 

of touring and recording, 

the Carpenters 

were signed to 

A&M Records 

in 1969, 

when Karen was 

 Just 19 years old. 

They achieved enormous 

commercial and

 critical success

 throughout the 1970s. 

Initially, 

Carpenter was the

 band's full-time drummer, 

but she gradually 

took the role of 

Frontwoman

 as her drumming

 was reduced to a

 handful of 

live showcases or 

tracks on albums.

In 1975, 

Carpenter started

 exhibiting symptoms of 

anorexia nervosa

 due to the 

severe pressures 

of fame and her

 complicated

 family dynamics. 

She was never able

 to recover 

and died 

at the age of 32

 in 1983 

from 

complications 

related to her disorder, 

which was 

little-known outside 

celebrity circles 

at the time. 

Carpenter's death

 sparked worldwide 

attention and research

 into

 eating disorders

 and body dysmorphia

 Interest in her life 

and death

 has spawned 

numerous documentaries 

and films
